2015 Parish Anniversary Celebrations

circa 1880

St. John the Evangelist Parish has a long and successful history as a worship community. Started as a mission of St. Mary’s in Newton Upper Falls, our first Mass was celebrated in May of 1875 in the basement of the partially completed church, and in November of 1890, a separate parish was created for the people of Newton Lower Falls and Wellesley. Thus, St. John the Evangelist Parish celebrated two significant milestones in our history in 2015:

  • In May, the 140th Anniversary of the first Mass celebrated in our church

  • In November, the 125th Anniversary of the founding of our Parish

Our goal was to make these anniversaries a parish-wide series of spiritual, historical, and social events that honored our past, celebrated the present, and welcomed the promise of our future.

Thank you all for being a part our past, present, and future! Using the menu to the right, please enjoy the rich history of our parish and the photos from these wonderful events!
