Periodically, a news clip flashes scenes of Somali refugees, beautiful faces ravaged by famine; our hearts contract, the picture moves to the next news item. Perhaps for awhile, our memory holds onto the reality. For many years, in preparing for Lent, St. John's Parish has chosen to reach out as a community to one particular suffering. Our Lenten gift enables each of us to share in easing the suffering. This year, the choice is the East African famine, spotlighting Somalia as the hardest hit. Throughout Lent our Parish Service Commission will share the story with you. Then, on the weekend of March 24-25, through a parish-wide collection, we will make our gift possible.
