The following opportunities for service are available through St. John’s Visitation and Outreach programs. The Program Coordinators for the Visitation and Outreach programs are Deirdre Heilbron (dgheilbron@yahoo.com) and Andrea Reilly.
Care and Concern Ministry
When we minister to those in need, we are reminded that we are all part of the Christian community, and therefore, not alone. This ministry provides various forms of concrete help (from meals to clothing, from transportation to kind conversation) that extend compassion to someone in need within our Parish. Volunteers offer time, talents, and understanding to ease the burdens faced by others. To join the Service Commission’s “Contact List” of volunteers who would like to be contacted to assist other parishioners in times of special need, please e-mail Deirdre Heilbron.

Hospital Visitation
The Chaplain’s Office at Newton Wellesley Hospital welcomes volunteers who would like to visit the sick and Eucharistic Ministers who would bring communion to the sick on a weekly basis. It’s a two-hour commitment that runs during the week in the mornings from 10am-12pm and in the afternoons from 2-4pm. On the weekends, it runs from 9-11am. Weekend volunteers are especially needed.
For More Information: Please call Judy Swett, Hospital Chaplain – Newton Wellesley Hospital, at 617-243-6634.
Nursing Home Visitation
This ministry reaches out to nursing home residents in two area facilities: Newton Health Care (2102 Washington Street, Newton) and The Falls at Cordingly Dam (2300 Washington Street, Newton). Volunteers gather to say the rosary and to organize a Communion Service at both facilities on a weekly basis.
