There is within St. John Parish a pastoral music community that welcomes the
participation of one and all. We proclaim the glory of God by enhancing the liturgy of the word and the Lord’s sacraments through music, rejoicing in the miracle of God’s love. Forging the bonds within our community, we transcend cultural, age and intellectual boundaries as well as the boundaries between trained and untrained musicians. Through this dynamic collaboration, all of us are challenged to be truly amazing.
Our music programs have something of interest to everyone, and musicians of all ability levels, from novice to expert, are most welcome in any group:
The Parish Choir at St. John sings at the 11am Sunday Eucharist and major feast days September though June. Our repertoire includes Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, American spirituals, and traditional and contemporary anthems and hymns. The choir is open to new singers at any time – please visit the Parish Choir page for more details.
FAMILY MASS MUSIC
Children and adults blend voice and instruments to praise the Lord and enrich our Sunday 9am Family Mass with upbeat, child-friendly, hand-clapping hymns. During the school year, we rehearse each Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for that day’s 9:00 a.m. Mass, and we also prepare special liturgies for Grade Level Masses, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Palm Sunday, Easter, and Pentecost. All ages welcome – please visit the Family Mass Music page for more details.
Our Christmas and Easter Youth Choirs are open to children in Grades 1-8. Children learn and perform traditional and contemporary music, and learn not only the story of Christ’s birth, death and resurrection, but also all the Christian symbols of light, hope, love and sacrifice. There is a sense of “youth community” in the choir as older children assist the younger children learning and performing the music and the younger children look up to their older counterparts. Please visit the Youth Choirs page for more information.
Sunday 5:00pm Mass Music
The music at this Mass tends to be more contemporary, appealing to the young adults/teens and their families. Vocalists and instrumentalists are welcome – please visit the Sunday 5:00pm Mass Music page for details.
