What is Your Next Step? RCIA Program Begins Soon

footsteps-on-beachWe are all on our individual spiritual journeys, yet come together to join in community at Mass each week. If you, or someone you know, are seeking greater participation and understanding of our faith and practices, we invite you to the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, or RCIA.

This is a wonderful opportunity for those who may have been baptized but who have not received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. We also warmly invite those of other faiths and those who are seeking God and who feel drawn towards the Catholic Church.

We are also calling for volunteers to journey with those in the RCIA process this year. We are looking for individuals to join us in our welcome. The experience is enriched by the presence of other Catholics who are willing to listen and learn and pray for one another. Please consider deepening your own faith by being a participant or a sponsor.

If you have any questions, please contact the Parish Office (781 235-0045) or Svea Fraser at (781) 237-7560 or sveafraser@gmail.com

Book Discussion Group Meeting – Thursday, June 18 at 7:30pm

booksThe St. John’s Book Discussion Group was created ten years ago with the basic goal of helping people to understand better the concepts, doctrines, ideas, people, events, institutions, history and relationships that make up the Catholic experience. We have done this through nine or ten meetings a year, held at the parish and focused on a particular book or publication, defined broadly to include, for example, a selection from scripture, an encyclical or a group of poems. There is no membership in the group – it has been open to everyone with an interest and a willingness to contribute to the discussions.

As we enter our second decade and embark on a new relationship with spiritual neighbors from St. Paul’s (and other parishes in the area) we feel it is appropriate to pause and consider ways we might improve the Book Discussion Group – with new members, new approaches to the selection of books and new discussion formats. We are proud of all we have accomplished – the list of books we have read is impressive and we continue to have 10-15 participants at each meetings, an ideal number for lively and fruitful discussion – but we know we can do better.

Thus, we will hold a meeting at the Parish Center (the building on the opposite side of the parking lot from the school) on Thursday evening, June 18, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. to discuss the future of the book group.

Please come and bring your ideas, suggestions and proposals for specific books or types of books you would like to read and discuss, along with any thoughts you have about organizing this wonderful effort in adult faith formation. There is no commitment — we welcome those who want to become active as well as those who just want to listen! St. Paul Parish Men’s Fellowship Group

In Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) he urges us to keep a healthy attitude in keeping the faith alive. It’s a mystery, and forgiveness should be the norm instead of being judgmental. The goal is to create a unity of purpose among all.

The St. Paul Parish Men’s Fellowship Group continues with Chapter 3, The Proclamation of the Gospel – how in practical steps we should approach evangelization joyfully, patiently and with the progressive preaching of the saving death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our next meeting is Wednesday, April 29th at 7:30pm in the St. Paul Parish Hall located behind the Church at 502 Washington Street. We’ve got room for you!

Thank You to Our Parish Community

Service_St_Francis_House

On Tuesday, April 28, members of the St. John Service Commission visited St. Francis House to present our Parish Lenten Gift.

You did it again! This time our Parish Lenten Gift was for St. Francis House. Through our parish-wide collection you became a blessing in the amount of $21,578. How wonderful to so generously share in this extraordinary ministry.  Thank you to one and all for your response!
