Where Are You on Your Faith Journey?

RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It the process by which adults enter full communion with our Church, through the sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist (Communion). RCIA can help you along your faith journey if:

  • You want to join the Church, and have never been baptized.
  • You have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition, but want to join the Catholic Church.
  • You have been baptized in the Catholic Church, but never had your First Communion or Confirmation.

If you think RCIA might be for you, contact either parish office by phone, or email rcia@sjspwellesley.org.  We’d love to hear from you!

Year of Mercy: Year of RCIA?

footsteps-on-beachPope Francis dedicated this
Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy to living out in our daily lives the mercy which God constantly extends to all of us. As he says, “Let us allow God to surprise us. He never tires of casting open the doors of his heart and of repeating that he loves us and wants to share his love with us.”

Are you ready to be surprised? Please consider the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. The doors of the RCIA are flung open wide for you if…

  •  You have been worshiping with us, but never officially took the step to become Catholic;
  • Have been away from the Church … and have now returned, but want to know more;
  • Have been a Catholic all your life, but never celebrated all of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist);
  • Have joined us from a different faith community and would now like to find out more about the Catholic Church;
  • Are seeking a deeper personal relationship with Jesus but have never been baptized.

If you answer yes to any of these situations, please consider saying yes to joining us when we begin our journey this autumn. Everyone is welcome. There will be more information forthcoming. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact Alan LaFleur and Svea Fraser at rcia@stjohnwellesley.org with your questions.

What is Your Next Step? RCIA Program Begins October 18

footsteps-on-beachWe are all on our individual spiritual journeys, yet come together to join in community at Mass each week. If you, or someone you know, are seeking greater participation and understanding of our faith and practices, we invite you to the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, or RCIA.

This is a wonderful opportunity for those who may have been baptized but who have not received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. We also warmly invite those of other faiths and those who are seeking God and who feel drawn towards the Catholic Church.

We are also calling for volunteers to journey with those in the RCIA process this year. We are looking for individuals to join us in our welcome. The experience is enriched by the presence of other Catholics who are willing to listen and learn and pray for one another. Please consider deepening your own faith by being a participant or a sponsor. RCIA will meet on Sunday,
October 18 at 10:00 a.m. in the Rectory.

If you have any questions, please contact the Parish Office (781 235-0045) or Svea Fraser at (781) 237-7560 or sveafraser@gmail.com

Where Are You Going? RCIA Program Begins Sunday, October 26

RCIAHave your travels taken you near and far?
Is there a deep longing within you for something more?
Catholicism is a way of life and becoming a Catholic is a life long journey in faith.

  • If you are not Catholic and interested in learning more about the Catholic faith…
  • If you are Catholic but never received all the sacraments of initiation (baptism, communion, confirmation)…
  • If you have been away from the church but have returned and want to know more…
  • If you are Catholic and want to share the journey…

…then this invitation to the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is for you.  The RCIA is primarily a journey of faith. It is a process, rooted in history, which educates in the Catholic faith and, if so desired, prepares adults to receive the sacraments of the Church, usually at Easter. More than that, it involves entering into a relationship with the risen Christ and a community of God’s people. It begins, in the words of an anonymous believer, with an “awareness of the stirring of faith and curiosity within one’s heart, to a life of faith, love, and justice lived in communion with Catholics throughout the world.” It begins here at St. John’s on Sunday, October 26 at 10:00am in the Rectory (next to the church). It begins with your questions and the freedom to discern your decision to follow this path. For more information, please contact Svea Fraser at (781) 237-7560 or sveafraser@comcast.net

Explore the Faith With RCIA

RCIAHave you been worshiping with us, but never officially took the steps to become Catholic? Have you been away from the Church and have now returned, and want to know more? Have you been a Catholic all your life, but never celebrated all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist)? Are you married to a Catholic and attend Mass, but just don’t know what the next step is to become a member of the Catholic faithful?

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a program designed to prepare Catholics who have not had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion and/or Confirmation, and to prepare non-Catholics and non-practicing Catholics to learn more about the Catholic faith. This program helps people to grow in faith and knowledge of God, and develop a deeper relationship with God as they prepare to receive the sacraments and/or consider becoming a Catholic. If you are not sure whether you want to become Catholic, you are still welcome to participate as you make your decision. There is no obligation to join the Catholic Church, and regardless of your decision, you are always welcome here at St. John the Evangelist Parish. If you would like to know more about this program, please contact Svea Fraser at (781) 237-7560. The program begins in October — All are welcome!

RCIA: Let us open wide our doors, go out, and bring the Church closer to the people! Begins This Sunday, October 27 at 10:00am

RCIAThe RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a journey that welcomes all seekers to learn about our Catholic Christian faith.  It offers everyone, especially you who are reading this announcement, the opportunity to extend an invitation to those you know who might be thinking about becoming a Catholic, who are baptized but not confirmed, who are Catholic but want to know more about our faith, or who for whatever reason may have left the Church.

Pope Francis challenges each of us with this statement from his recent interview: “We cannot keep ourselves shut up in parishes… it is not enough simply to open the door in welcome, but we must go out through the door to seek and meet the people.”

We will convene the last Sunday in October (10/27/13) from 10:00am to 11:00am  in the Church Rectory. Let us open wide our doors, go out, and bring the Church closer to the people!
