Cookies & Caroling for Families – Friday, December 11 from 6:00 – 7:30pm

Cookies_and_CarolsPlease join us at our first- ever Family Cookies and Caroling event on Friday, December 11 from 6-7:30pm in Powers Hall for Christmas Caroling, cookie decorating and Christmas crafts, and perhaps a visit from someone special from the North Pole! The Very Merry Dickens carolers will lead us in Christmas cheer and we will have song books for all!

Anniversary_Logo_FinalThis Saturday, November 7, the 5:00pm Mass will be a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the founding of St. John the Evangelist Parish.

This special Mass, concelebrated by Rev. Kevin Sepe, Very Rev. Brian Kiely, Msgr. Peter Conley, Rev. John Connelly, Rev. J. Bryan Hehir, Msgr. Joseph Lind, Rev. Paul Soper, Rev. Arthur MacKay and Rev. Robert McMillan, SJ, will include music from our Parish Choir, Family Mass Choir and Musicians, and our guests, the Labyrinthe Choir. Please join us at this special Mass as we honor our past, celebrate our present, and welcome the promise of our future.

 

Following Mass, all are invited to continue the celebration with refreshments in Powers Hall.

It’s Welcome Weekend!

During “Welcome Weekend” we lift high the banner of WELCOME to one and all as we celebrate the life of this community and the countless ways this life continues to grow and deepen in faith and love and service. Each September is always a new beginning! Come, join us to make this year the best!

Parish Family Fun! Please join us after morning Masses on Sunday, September 27 for coffee and breakfast goodies, along with lots of fun for the kids: pony rides, a petting zoo, and much more! We look forward to seeing you there!

Parking: Parking will be very tight due to the event taking place in our parking lot. Please look to park along Washington Street, Bank of America, Burke Funeral Home, or the Haynes Office Park parking lots at 36-40 Washington Street (if accessible.)

Labyrinth Choir Concert: Saturday, April 25 at 7:30pm

Heart of Music posterLabyrinth Choir is celebrating their first CD release with a concert called The Heart of Music at St. John the Evangelist on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The 16 voice professional choir, led by artistic director Dr. Anita Kupriss, will sing all fifteen songs from their first recording. The songs from the CD include Gjeilo’s Ubi caritas, Brahms’ Let Nothing Ever Grieve Thee, our signature song Carrickfergus, as well as jazz tunes Come Sunday and I Wish You Love.

In September of 2014 Brad Michel, a professional sound engineer and parishioner at St. John’s, recorded our CD in the Sanctuary. Music Director Laurence Carson played organ on two tracks of the CD and will join Labyrinth Choir for this concert series. We are so grateful to Laurence Carson and the parish of St. John’s that we would like to offer comp tickets to all parishioners who would like to celebrate with us on Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 pm! Wednesday, April 8th at 7:00pm: “Wellesley Then and Now” – A Parish Anniversary Lecture presented by the Wellesley Historical Society

The New St. John Church circa 1901Please join us as we launch our efforts to mark this milestone with a lecture on Wednesday, April 8th, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the St. John Church Social Hall. Kathleen Fahey, the Curator of the Wellesley Historical Society, will present a comparison of the Wellesley of today with the (much smaller and more rural) Wellesley of 100 years ago. She will use a combination of modern photographs and older ones from the Society’s archives to show how our town has changed over the years. All ages are welcome!
