Parish Family Picnic Brunch – This Sunday, September 23

It’s Welcome Weekend!  Please join us this Sunday for the St. John Parish Family Picnic Brunch after our Sunday morning Masses.  We will have pancakes along with games, pony rides, a petting zoo, and much more!  We look forward to seeing you there!  There are still some spots where we could use some help.  Please visit our Volunteer Sign Up Page or email  Susan Calcio with your availability.  Even an hour of your time (anywhere from 8am-2pm) would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for making this a great morning!

Attention 9th and 10th Grade Confirmation Candidates!

This year we are offering Confirmation students an opportunity to fulfill community service hours at our upcoming Parish Family Picnic Brunch on Sunday, September 23.  Parents, please encourage your child’s participation in this fun Parish event – we truly need their help!  The event takes place in the morning with time slots available from 8:00am – 2:00pm.  Volunteer with a friend – you can choose one slot or as many as you like.  It’s a great way to serve our parish community, have fun working with friends, and log some community service hours all at the same time!  Just go to Parish Family Picnic Signup and select the shift(s) you wish to serve.  If you have any questions, please contact Susan Calcio.  Thank you very much for your enthusiasm and service to the parish.
All students in the Parish’s Confirmation program must complete 25 hours of community service prior to reception of the Sacrament at the end of grade 10. We strongly encourage students to begin accruing these hours in grade 9.

Can You Offer a Ride?

An elderly parishioner who can no longer drive is looking for a ride to church on Sundays.  She typically attends the 7:30am Sunday Mass. If you are able to help out please contact Deirdre Heilbron at dgheilbron@yahoo.com. Hopefully we will have a few volunteers so we can share the driving.

Can You Help “So Others May Eat”? (S.O.M.E.) – Sunday, February 26

Since 1995, our parish has helped serve the homeless by providing sandwiches  on the 4th and 5th (when there is one) Sunday of each month for the Bristol Lodge in Waltham.  The sandwiches are distributed to the clients of the Bristol’s various programs for the needy and provide a nourishing mid-day meal for the residents of shelters which are closed during the daytime hours.  We need your help to provide hundreds of sandwiches on Sunday February 26. Please bring sandwiches (wrapped and without condiments) to the church kitchen refrigerator.   For more information please contact Liz Phillips at (781) 237-4430 or Liz.phillips@comcast.net

Can You Help A Parishioner in a Time of Special Need?

The Service Commission is currently compiling a new list of parish volunteers who would like to be contacted to assist other parishioners in times of special need (most frequent example: to provide a meal). If you would like to be on this “contact list” please e-mail Deirdre Heilbron at dgheilbron@yahoo.com.  Thank you!
