This weekend, St. John’s Parish will again show its solidarity with people in need by collecting funds for our Lenten Gift – Giving Hope to East Africa. Our Lenten gift strengthens each of us individually and the parish as a community of faith, as we give witness to Christ’s call to…love one another; as I have loved you (John 13:34). We ask that you be as generous as you can as we designate our second collection to this effort. (You can also donate online, using ParishPay.)
Throughout Lent, we’ve told the story in the bulletin and on our website of the plight of Somalis who are fleeing the severe drought and famine in Somalia, making the arduous and dangerous trek to the Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya. These camps serve as a critical step in the resettlement process for more than half a million Somalis seeking food, basic medical care, and a safer environment for their families. The situation continues to be very challenging, but the Dadaab refugee camps offer hope and are making a difference.
Catholic Relief Services has been selected as the recipient of our gift. As an “on the ground” charity, CRS is able identify the greatest needs and direct our gift to these priorities. Your donations are critical to ensuring a healthy environment for refugees.
