A Special Invitation – Holy Thursday, March 28 at 7:30pm

footwashingAs you know, a part of this celebration is a sacred ritual, cherished for generations, a dramatization of Eucharistic love – Jesus washing the feet of his disciples. Each year this serving love of Jesus is re-enacted to enable each of us to enter into it more deeply. If you would like to participate, there is a sign-up sheet in our Church ‘gathering space’.  We encourage you to consider sharing in this graced experience.  For those who volunteer, further details will be sent to you before March 28.  For more information, please call (781-235-0045) or email the Parish Office.  Thank you.

December 9, 2012: A Message from the Adult Faith Formation Commission

AFFC LogoThe Adult Faith Formation Commission would like to expand its membership and we invite you to consider becoming part of this very important parish activity. The commission is responsible for planning and coordinating all efforts relating to religious education for adults. Our goal is to help members of the parish to expand and enhance their understanding and appreciation of the message of the gospels, to see faith formation as part of being a responsible Catholic.  The commission has been meeting monthly, except for the summer months, since its creation. Much of the work, however, can be done by individuals and sub-committees and coordinated informally by email and telephone. We would be more than happy to talk to potential commission members – in person, by phone or by email.  Please drop us a note at affc@stjohnswellesley.org

Christmas Wish Volunteers Needed

The Christmas Wish effort is gearing up and we are looking for new and continuing volunteers to administer this growing program. The program supports families in St. Johns as well as families in Brockton, Lowell, South Boston, and Roxbury by providing Christmas gifts to about 400 children in need. We are looking for volunteers to assist in any number of ways:

  • Coordination with one of the parishes and the sponsors/shoppers providing wishes for that parish
  • Administrative support
  • Program communication
  • Shopping

Please consider even a small amount of time to the program as we enter this time of giving. If you would like to help, please feel free to email Liz Corcoran, Kathy Maher, or Christine Kehoe .

Turkeys, as well as the other side dishes, can be cooked as early as the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving. Film Night at St. John’s – “The Way” – Saturday, October 20 after 5pm Mass

The first in a series of films, discussions and pot luck suppers! Following the 5:00 pm Mass on Saturday, October 20, we invite all parishioners to a showing of the movie THE WAY, followed by a  potluck dinner and reflection on the film. THE WAY is a powerful and inspirational story about family.  Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son (played by Emilio Estevez). Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical “Way of St. James” pilgrimage to honor his son’s desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn’t plan on is the profound impact this trip will have on him.  An inexperienced trekker, Tom meets up with other pilgrims along his route. This unlikely band of misfits creates an everlasting bond and Tom begins to learn what it means to be a citizen of the world again.  Through unexpected and often times amusing experiences along “The Way”, Tom discovers the difference between “the life we live and the life we choose.” Special Request: Would you enjoy organizing the pot luck supper? If interested please contact the Parish Office at (781) 235-0045 or st-johns@comcast.net.
