Parish Choir Announcement

music_choirThe 2015-2016 Parish Choir season has begun. We welcome interested singers from high school age and beyond to join us. We rehearse Wednesday evenings 7:30-9pm in the Music Office, lower level of the church. Our Sunday warm-up rehearsal is at 9:30am.

If participating in choir on a weekly basis is overwhelming you should consider joining the First Sunday Choir. Just as the name indicates we meet the first Sunday of the month at 9:30am. If you need a little head start learning music, come to the previous Wednesday night’s rehearsal.

This year our team of choir directors includes: Dr. Anita Kupriss, Dr. Michael and Kelly Meraw and Larry Carson. We welcome new members at anytime during the year but particularly at the beginning of the season. With Christmas coming quickly, we’ve begun to prepare music for the occasion. This lively, energizing ministry is the perfect place to share the love of singing together, rekindle old friendships and begin new ones.

A Special Announcement from Our Parish Cantor, Marian Morrison

Marian_Morrison“This Fall, I will be stepping down from my position at St. John’s. As Parish Cantor and coordinator of many special projects for the Parish, I have loved my job and the wonderful staff, musicians and parishioners with whom I’ve worked over the past 25 years. I will always be grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by this amazing Community and will cherish the memories that I have. Please know how deeply I appreciate all of you!”

Marian will conclude her service at St. John’s on Sunday, November 1, at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. There will be a Reception for Marian immediately following that Mass downstairs in Powers Hall (Social Hall) to provide everyone the opportunity to let Marian know: You are a gift, we will truly miss! Come join us!

What is Your Next Step? RCIA Program Begins October 18

footsteps-on-beachWe are all on our individual spiritual journeys, yet come together to join in community at Mass each week. If you, or someone you know, are seeking greater participation and understanding of our faith and practices, we invite you to the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, or RCIA.

This is a wonderful opportunity for those who may have been baptized but who have not received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. We also warmly invite those of other faiths and those who are seeking God and who feel drawn towards the Catholic Church.

We are also calling for volunteers to journey with those in the RCIA process this year. We are looking for individuals to join us in our welcome. The experience is enriched by the presence of other Catholics who are willing to listen and learn and pray for one another. Please consider deepening your own faith by being a participant or a sponsor. RCIA will meet on Sunday,
October 18 at 10:00 a.m. in the Rectory.

If you have any questions, please contact the Parish Office (781 235-0045) or Svea Fraser at (781) 237-7560 or sveafraser@gmail.com

THE POPE FRANCIS “AFTER EFFECT”
Sunday, October 18 after 11:00am Mass
For six whole days our country was washed in the light of Pope’s Francis’ message of love, inclusion and mercy. And the sun shone on us all. Many of us watched and listened, our hearts burning inside! Most of us were unable to see every minute. However, thanks to the miracle of technology, we can see and hear every speech, every homily, every blessing Pope Francis gave. They are available on YouTube or any of the major media sites (CNN, NYT, etc.) John Allen writes in the Boston Globe (9/30/15 p. B1) “A papal visit like this is an opportunity for all of us to reflect upon our own ideals and the transcendence of God and his presence in our lives.” Let us keep the fire burning! One opportunity is to meet and share our reflections of the visit. We can begin with Pope Francis’ speech to Congress on his first day. Please join us after the 11:00 Mass next Sunday, October 18th in the Parish Center. Bring a bag lunch!
